Has anyone installed Linux-Mandrake 6.0 on a PC with Creative
Technology's Graphics Blaster Exxtreme card and a Permedia 2
chip?

Xconfigurator lists the card, but when I look at the XF86Config
file that's produced, I see no reference to this card. However
it appears to be detected by the software when I do startx.

After a lot of experimentation, I finally got a couple of
modelines to work (sort of) on an old VGA monitor
(non-interlaced):

Modeline "768x580" 36.0 768 776 816 984 580 601 603 653

and

Modeline "720x450" 29.9 720 744 816 920 450 453 455 500

But I notice a couple of strange things running KDE:

1) When I type startx, the aspect ratio (determined by the shape
of the X cursor) starts off square, and suddenly becomes very
tall about half way through the initialization. I can go to
xvidtune and press Apply (and nothing else!) and the aspect
ratio is mysteriously fixed. What is going on??

2) The colors on the two video modes that work are quite
different. The second one is more pleasing to the eye, but I'm
pretty sure neither one is right, e.g., the first mode gives an
almost dark desktop, while the second gives a blue desktop. I
don't know what is right for KDE. I don't understand why the
colors should be a function of the mode chosen.

Are all these problems related or do I have several problems?

TIA
