Sounds like a DNS problem. Is netscape set up to show a homepage that is
not on your local machine/network ?

If you have nothing to lose, remove ~/.netscape/preferences.js . It sounds
like that one is corrupt. If you do this however, you will have to
reconfigure everything in netscape.
