"One" That could be the understatement of the year. There is a whole
plethora of them. :-) Here's a partial list...
Gnus - runs in emacs or Xemacs, in my opinion it is by far the best.
It does news and mail. And if you use it in conjunction with
Xemacs you get the best of both console and X.
pine - text mode only, also does news (no threading)
elm
mail
kmail - KDE thing
balsa - GNOME thing
mutt - text mode, very configurable and versatile (not as good as
Gnus, though).
And I'm sure that there are many many others. Go and do a search on
freshmeat (http://www.fresmeat.net)
