X server crash, error 111

When doing 'startx' from the root prompt, I've started to get this
message:

_FontTransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno =111
failed to set default font path
'/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/,unix/:-1'
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

        'When reporting a problem...'

Xconnection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

How do I reset/reconfigure the default font path?
