I'm running Slackware 3.9 at home with 24Meg RAM and it works just fine.
But I am using fvwm95 as a windo manager and not GNOME. Though GNOME is a
nice GUI it aslo consumes considerably more memory. Also running with as
little memory as 32Meg, you need to think about which apps you want to use.
For example Star Office requires 30Meg RAM minimum. With 24Meg RAM there is
a fair amount of swapping taking place just to get Netscape up. With
GNOME, every time I clicked on something (e.g. to open their editor) it
would start swapping.

So though 2 years ago 32Meg seemed like a lot, it isn't much with todays
windose and Linux apps. Either use X apps that ask for less memory (e.g.
nedit, emacs, fvwm, Ted ....) or add more memory. At least 64Meg. I run 128
on my work machine and that seems to be about right. At work I'm running
GNOME and with that and a few apps running about 1/2 of my RAM is
consumed.

Good luck
