Well, I remember someone sending me some information on being able to
use two kernels on the same system. The reason I got this information, was
I wanted to try running the new 2.3.x kernels, with USB support, without
trashing my original kernel 2.2.6 that comes with Slackware 4.
You may find this of interest, when compiling a kernel for the first time, so if
anything does go wrong, you've got a "comeback" to boot Linux, and fix the
system :o)

I've included the information I recieved below, thanks to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
for the information :o)

LILO lets your choose to boot from one of several kernels. To add a new
kernel to your system:

 1) look in /etc/lilo.conf to see where it looks for your kernel (image=...)
 2) install your freshly-built kernel in the same location. Give it a unique
name, so as to not overwrite the existing kernels.
 2) copy the 'image=' line, and every indented line underneath it, to make a
new entry.
 3) change the newly-copied 'image=' line to point to the new kernel
 4) save & exit
 5) run "lilo" to write a new boot sector to your hard disk.

That's the information I was given, though I must admit, I haven't used it (I
took to using the other kernel on another system). But at least I have the
information when I do ever need to have 2 kernels on my system.

Isnt' the Linux community a great thing. Hell, I never would have known how
to run 2 kernels without being given the information ;o)

Even if you don't use the information, print it out like I did, you never know
when someone might find it useful :o)
