   emacs _should_ be okay... But just a thought, RAM comes pretty cheap
these days , and _I_ would seriously consider upgrading if I were you...
getting more RAM and CPU power does help. Maybe you could use the 486 to
handle mail or act as your web server or something [ basically less CPU
and Memory Intensive jobs ] ... and use a Pentium 133 atleast for running
your word processing apps.I like xemacs a lot , but realised running X
with a 486 wouldnt quite be the sweetest of experiences... ;)
