The conventional solution to this is to set up the Linux host as a router,
connecting it to the cable modem and to a LAN, then use IP Masquerading to
let other hosts on the LAN work through the Linux host. Look at the IP
Masquerading HowTo for details. RH6 should do all of this just fine.

In your case, the easiest variant on that idea might be to put 2 Ethernet
cards in the Linux host, and connect the Win98 host directly to one of the
Linux NICs with a crossover cable. There are other variants as well, and I
don't know what might best work in your particular circumstances.
