I stayed out of this previously because I too was put off by your original
message. (There's a lesson here - some people who are offended by vulgar
language won't complain ... but neither will they try to help you ... they
will simply ignore you, reducing the size of the pool of helpers you can
turn to.)

As you have continued to report your (lack of) progress, in more courteous
form, I've had a few thoughts that might help.

1. Might this be a glibc (libc6) 2.0 vs 2.1 issue? What does

        ldd /usr/bin/gcc

report about libraries (use a different path if that isn't where you have
gcc)? And what does /lib/libc.so.6" symlink to? I did check that RH 6.0
ships with 2.1; I don't have a Mandrake 6.0 around to check.

2. What version of gcc are you running? If you can't get this with "gcc -v"
or "gcc --version", check the .rpm and see what it says. My RH 6.0 disk
lists only egcs 1.1.2. You might see how different this is from the version
that ships with Mandrake 6.0.

3. You previously reported that "uname -a" says you are using kernel 2.2.9 .
This is from the range of minors where 2.2.x was having filesystemproblems,
and it is NOT the stock kernel that comes with RH 6.0 (that is 2.2.5). Might
this be a kernel problem? Now that you have done a reinstall, run "uname -a"
again and make sure you are using the stock RH kernel.

4. You latest message (below) says you are using device "hde6". This is not
a standard device -- IDE devices normally are hda, hdb, hdc, and hdd. Might
this oddity be causing a filesystem problem that manifests itself in link
errors?

5. Finally, if none of this helps, how about starting afresh with a complete
description of the system and the error you are seeing. I went back to your
original message and noted you seem to say there that there are additional
messages after the one about "Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed".
(Also, is the backtick or the single-quote the typo in this? I assume the
first, but it always helps to minimize assumptions.) A complete description
might yield better suggestions.
