I'm replying to this only due to Richard's suggestion. I don't think I have
any insights greater than his.

1. I don't understand the system itself. The inconsistency between the
presence of SCSI drives and RH's use of hd?? partition designators stumps
me. (BTW, SCSI designators look like sda1, sda2, sdb1 ... not scdX)

2. It appears that despite all this disk space, RH only has one partrition
to install into, and that partition (hda5) is only 295 mB. That's small for
a stock RH installation. Might the installer simply be running out of space?

3. If I remember the RH install sequence correctly (an important "if", since
I'm almost entirely a Debian and Slackware user), it first installs the
"base" to the root filesystem, then runs a fancier script to install the
.rpm's. At which stage is the problem occurring?

4. If it is occurring during the base install, might an image file
associated with the base simply be bad? Are both images -- stage2.img and
hddist -- present on the installation source filesystem?

5. If it is occurring during the package install, then what is the nature of
the error? The listed errors all are specific to Python (I'm guessing that
"anaconda" is somehow related to Python). Are they just errors associated
with a particular *rpm install, or is RH now using Python to run its
installer (I do see that Python is in the RH base, so maybe it does now)? If
he can, he might want to switch to a different vt when the errors appear (or
just before, if he can anticipate it) and use "ps ax" to see what is
actually running.

Having written this up, it doesn't feel like all that much help. I skipped
replying to this in the first place because I didn't think I could be much
help, unless I went through the exercise of trying to replicate his problem
here ... and that's a bit more work than I'm inclined to do. Perhsps these
thoughts will at least be enough to elicit a problem statement that avoids
some of the imprecision and inconsistency of the first one? Sorry I can't
offer more.
