Depends on how you want to do it.

Method 1: Use shell logins and transfer using rz/sz. To do this, you need to
run a process on the server end (the end that answers the phone) that will
watch the serial line. Look in /etc/inittab and see if there is already one
present, but commented out -- a line that looks something like this:

        T1:23:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -x0 -s 57600 ttyS1

If you have such a line, just uncomment it and change the device number
(ttyS1 i trhe example) to match the serial port that the modem is on. Then
restart init ("init q") and you should have a system ready to answer the phone.

Dial in from the client using minicom or equivalent. Login, then run rz on
the server, sz on the client to upload files. "man rz" for the details on
that part.

Method 2: Use a ppp connection. This is a bit more complex. The PPP HowTo
gives you some starting points. I have a more detailed guide to it, but it's
based on apps (like agetty) that aren't a normal part of a Red Hat install
... you want instructions that use mgetty, not agetty, and I don't recall
where they can be found. Anyway, let us know if you want to go this route,
and if you do, I or someone else can probably suggest additional places to
look for info. (There is a home Web site for mgetty somewhere; try a
standard search and you should turn it up.)
