Video Card Question

I'm looking at buying a new video card since the S3Trio3D in linux 
is horrible and I want the full benefit of linux in as many colors as 
possible. Would I be correct in looking at the xfree86 card list and 
getting a video card that uses the XF86_SVGA server as this will 
display the most colors do some of the other servers like the S3 
server give you the same amount of colors?
