Normally, if a card is supported, it doesn't matter if it uses the SVGA
server or another one. The main problem is, how well is it supported ?
If you use cards like the Matrox series or other some other brand names
that are not cloned, you are normally safer than with cards like the S3
series where the chipset is well supported but your particular card may
give problems. As an example I have used different S3 Virge cards, some of
them work great in 16 or 24 bits mode, others can only be used in 8 bits
mode.
