I suspect you aren't getting much help, if any, in response to these
messages. If I'm right, let me suggest that you would benefit your cause if
you describe in considerably more detail what you are trying and what
problems result.
When you say, for example, "I have done all that was required", about the
only thing I can say in response is that you're probably wrong -- that you
made some error that you are missing. What error? Who knows? You don't tell
us enough to suggest anything. Similarly, I don't know how to interpret such
descriptions as "connect and everything" and "a ping or nothing". In your
later message, "remove all the network devices" is similarly hard to understand.
An earlier message mentioned that you are using RH 6.1, but beyond that,
you've said nothing that I can find about your system or your LAN (if you
have a LAN). I'm not even certain whether you are talking in *this* message
about using ppp to dial out from the Linux server or to permit another host
to dial into it (I suspect from your comment about "doing something wrong on
the windoze side" that you are still trying to do the second).
In my experience, the problems with ppp setups (particularly dial-in ppp)
are usually in the details of the implementation. The PPP HowTo can get you
started, but it usually isn't enough to get you running ... but to say more,
I (and others, I imagine) need to see some details.
