When I dial the linux box - I connect with the modem and I have configured
win95 dial up to display a terminal after connecting - from where I log in
and type the pppd -detach and then hit continue - it then logs in and I am
connected. If I use the ifconfig eth0 down command - as before - I can
then see the box - am able to ping it and can view the web page - but
cannot telnet???
the /etc/ppp/options.ttyS2 file there is nothing.
I try to ping and get :
Pinging 172.17.1.5 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

OK - I see where I may have made a mistake - if I ping I am pinging the
eth0 adapter - but it works when it is "down" - that is - ifconfig eth0
down - I can ping the IP?? - what do youmean the ppp0 adaptor???
Thank VERY much for your help...
