You do not say what window manager you are using, so like Greg and Ray say
we need once again to shoot in the dark.
Normaly under KDE one would start up the control center choose (or is it
click) thesedays "Desktop" then screensavers, then click on "HELP"
That then in turn gives you or should give you all the info you need.
Simply saying, "I get some error about XAUTH or XDM." is not enough.
