Then it sounds like there is only one resolution defined, or you have not
defined the monitor hsync and vsync properly.
Ray or was it Greg gave you the URL(s) to look into, and also told you to
use a search macine yourself, now have you done that,???.

Its all very well takinga defeatist attitude and saying, o well i'll just
use the command line, look at it this way, if your monitor shows such a
high resoltion under X then it CAN show lower resolutions and thats a fact.

It also looks like you have not even tryed the sample configuration example
i sent you,??.

What is defined in your /etc/X11/XF86Config file.?

A 21" screen normaly can do the highest of resolutions, but it will not do
lower ones if you do not tell it to.

Like you have been told, use "xf86config" to create another XF86Config
file, answer all the questions enter the data asked for and try the new
file, but save the old one first.

SuperProbe is a program which will tell you what video card you have, note
how its spelt, use it to get at least some information for configuring the
system.

Go to www.xfree86.org i imagen ALL the info you need is there.
Read the doco's on your own system, /usr/doc/HOWTO
XFree86-HOWTO
XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO
XWindow-User-HOWTO
There are also some mini docs as well in the mini directory.

Documentation is everywhere.

Dont take temporary measures when there is a perment solution.
