edit the file .xinitrc file in your home directory( if you don't already have
one, create a new one) and erase the line that says "exec gnome-session" and
add a new line that says "startkde".

Sure it is!
change the line "id:5:initdefault:" for "id:3:initdefault:" in the /etc/inittab
file.
