Hello, I just stripped the wine executable. The filesize was reduced from 33.4MB to 3.8MB. The man page for strip says that this utility discards all symbols from the object files (...). I come from a DOS world, and I think there is no equivalent for this. I used to compile code into object files, and then link them to get an executable file. I thought it worked in the same way in the Linux world. What symbols does strip remove? Are these symbolic references to variables that are changed to memory offsets and addresses by the linker? Maybe the compiler leaves the symbolic references to aid debugging? Jeremas Galletti
