Are you worried about the electromagnetic radiation or the cathode ray (soft
xrays) radiation? Don't be. Neither is sufficiently strong enough to be
dangerous. The electromagnetic type is primarily magnetic and confined to the
deflection coils, which focus them inside the tube. The cathrode ray may
produce some soft xrays if the high voltage rectifier is defective (over 15K
Volts, or so) but most modern tube designs don't allow that to occur. In the
old days when color tv first appeared there were warnings about the J5v (or
something like that - my memory has parity errors) HV rectifier tube which
allowed one to make an xray by taping something to the front of the tube and
then taping a polariod film to it and letting it stay that way for 20-30
hours.
