Yes, my effort to be brief meant my problem is obscure. I just sent a
longer discription to the list already that might help.
But to address the particular issues you raise, I was subscribed before
to the list from a different mail system altogether (an academic mail
server using an antiquated VAX mail system, and the mail account was not
on my local machine at all). I needed to change my subscription to an
entirely different server, unrelated to the academic server, but via a
commerical ISP offering support for e-mail. I subscribed to this list
without a problem and get mail. However, I can't send mail to the the
server suporting this list with rmail. I can only send it via Netscape,
as I'm doing right now.
However, I did remove a hostname from my local machine, and so your
suggestion to unsub/re-sub might fix things. The web page describing the
problem suggested to me that the problem was that I was not using the
correct mail server name, not the address of my mail-utility.
