Try the "insert" key. On my keyboard, tapping "insert" highlights
individual files, which can then be copied (moved, deleted,
chowned, chmoded, etc.). Hitting "insert" over a highlighted file will
remove it from the group of "tagged" files.
As to 1: and 2:, sorry, I'm vi-use-challenged :)
