Sorry, don't know vim at all (never used it), but if you have a look

If you're wanting to convert tabs to spaces for emails XEmacs +
Gnus does it by default.

XEmacs does this too.  Along with quite a lot of other nice things
that makes programming a whole lot easier.

Tap on the Insert key on any file you want to select. (hit it again to
unselect).
