Good Morning/Evening to all,

Having read as many How Tos  as I could find, (six) on laptops in general and Compaq LTE 5000 in specific (1) I made an attempt to install RH 5.2 ( the only distro I had floppies for) System is as follows:
Intel Pentium 75 mhz 16 MB RAM, 256 KB cache, 1MB graphics memory, Display 800X600 pixels,Display Cirrus Logic 7543 PCI, CD ROM Teac CD46E, generic HD IDE type 44, 2250 MB, IBM PS2 mouse, serial port 3F8, IRQ 4, Parallel Port, 378, IRQ 7.
Using Partition Magic I created a 319.2 MB ex2 Linux partition and did not create a seperate swap partition this could be the problem... read on..
Booting from the floppy using the boot disk created on my desktop when I installed R H 5.2 there, ( one may have either a floppy  or a cd not both ) LILO runs, kernel loads and uncompresses normally until it comes to:

Partition Check :
hda: hda1 hda2 <hda5>
Attempt to access beyond end of device
03:06 rw=0, want=2, limit=0
ext2-fs : unable to read superblock
Attempt to access beyond end of device
03:06 : rw=0, want=1, limit=0
Fat bread failed
Kernel panic VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:06

In your opinion will the creation of a swap partition solve this problem..? I'm pretty ignorant as to what these error messages are telling me.

I also feel a little unsure about using that boot disk from the other machine to boot on the Compaq. I am unable to use both the floppy and the CD on the Compaq laptop since they plug into the same port, and removal while under power is strongly discouraged.. any suggestions..?

Thanx in Advance
