THe problem you describe is *probably* just the result of your using the
wrong bootdisk. A bootdisk is set up to boot from a specific disk partition,
and with a specific partition as the root (/) filesystem. It appears that
your desktop system has a /dev/hda6 partition that it uses as root. The
bootdisk you are using can't find that partition on your laptop, since it
only goes to hda5. I get this from this portion of what you sent:

>Partition Check :
>hda: hda1 hda2 <hda5>
>Attempt to access beyond end of device
>03:06 rw=0, want=2, limit=0
>ext2-fs : unable to read superblock
>Attempt to access beyond end of device
>03:06 : rw=0, want=1, limit=0
>Fat bread failed
>Kernel panic VFS : Unable to mount root fs on 03:06

03:06 is the designation for /dev/hda6 .

You need to boot from either the hard disk itself, from a boot floppy made
for the laptop, or from a rescue floppy that can be told to mount the
correct root filesystem (probably /dev/hda5).

LILO runs, kernel loads and uncompresses normally until it comes to:

I'm pretty ignorant as to what these error messages are telling me.

on the Compaq laptop since they plug into the same port, and removal while
under power is strongly discouraged.. any suggestions..?
