Thanks for so much information, with what you have told us it makes the job of
giving advise so easy, how on eatrh can anyone say whats wrong when you DONT
even say what video card you have.

Now considering "I know what you mean" i would take a guess that you have a SiS
video card, in that case the following has answers for you.

Use the search engine there to find a "Keyword"

The keyword in this case is;

SiS

Now if you have a card other than SiS, disregard the above and write another
message to the list describing your video card monitor and just whats defined
in XF86Config for video card and monitor.

You might want to try starting X in 8 bpp mode, that could help.

startx -- -bpp 8
