I didn't recognize this card number, so I checked it in the Ethernet HowTo
(at URL http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO.html). This is what it
says:
"3c589 / 3c589B
"Status: Semi-Supported, Driver Name: 3c589
"Many people have been using this PCMCIA card for quite some time now. Note
that support for it is not (at present) included in the default kernel
source tree. The "B" in the name means the same here as it does for the
3c509 case.
"There are drivers available on Donald's ftp site and in David Hinds PCMCIA
package. You will also need a supported PCMCIA controller chipset. See
PCMCIA Support for more info on PCMCIA drivers, chipsets, socket enablers, etc."
I'm not sure how current this HowTo is, but I didn't find the module
included in my 2.2.13 kernel module set. OTOH, tomsrtbt **does** claim to
include it.
Not having the card, I can't test this ... but try entering "insmod
3c589_cs.o" at the command line and see if it works. You may need to specify
the complete path: /lib/modules/pcmcia/3c589_cs.o .

As far as I know, tomsrtbt doesn't have a "save configuration" option.

No. /etc/resolv.conf is where you list the nameservers. You set the IP
address with "ifconfig". Check the man page on your full-size Linux
distribution for the details (or look in the appropriate startup script on
that system for an example).
