This fixed it. But I couldn't boot w98 with lilo afterwards. I tried
disk=/dev/hda
bios=0x81

with no luck, but I believe I did something wrong in this step. I believe this
should make LILO boot w98, but anyway, after reading the lilo README recovery
procedures, I installed it to /dev/hda.
