During the install command messages, (i should really have said this insted
of logs) are written to "console" hit ctrl-alt-F1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 you will
see that you can login on one console see output of whats happening on
another and be able to see what the system is doing on another, and yes all
that during the install.

I would check my handbook of the motherboard for its jumper settings,
espesaly if its a AMD K6 or Cyrix processor.

My boss instructed me to buy a new compuer, all he said was you MUST
keep the price to a minumum, i objected and said buy an Intell processor
and save yourself a lot of problems and possably money, he politly said
keep it cheap, so i did, i brought a K6 2 450 processor and an ASUS
motherboard, the result is, some of our software wont run on the new
computer thats dos software specally written for companies like ours and i
have had problems in linux also.

Of course the above is not going to help you with your problem, but it does
not say a lot for AMD K6 processors, on the other hand i am not saying
there are no good, its just that you have to be very carefull with jumper
settings.

Another end to the story is, overclocking a CPU takes time off its lifespan.
