I added that line in /etc/modules.conf (which was not present before I
created it, does it mean anything?) and this is what I got.
------------------
[root@localhost /etc]# /sbin/modprobe eth0
/lib/modules/preferred/net/tulip.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
------------------
Ok, this problem was encountered at home where the ethernet card is
present but I connect with the modem. The card is just plugged into the
motherboard. Since its a PCI card, I thought it should be autodetected,
no?

Please tell me its ok and there still may be hope...

Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first.
