Well, it looks like you may have talked yourself out of a drive. Your
suggestion to use `e2fsck -c` was spot on. I ran `e2fsck -c`, and it
found some bad blocks on the drive. I lost some bits of Adobe Acrobat,
StarOffice, WordPerfect and my default console font, but that isn't that
tragic. The console font was fixed when I updated the system; Acrobat I
can reinstall from the SuSE distro. StarOffice was on its way out
anyway, and I had planned on loading the full version of WP as soon as I
had some time.
So, bottomline, the system is up and running again. (Although I am a bit
miffed at the SuSE update. It whacked a perfectly good kernel in favor
of one two versions older - 2.2.10 for 2.2.12. Gotta figure out why it
did that.)

Thanks for the offer, but I've got Slack 7 here. Just haven't gotten
around to updating yet. Looking forward to it though, since it includes
the new glibc libraries.
