Are you using Slack7 ? If so, are you using the special
pcmcia installation disk? See: /rootdsks/pcmcia.dsk.README
If you are using an earlier version of Slackware, are you
using the pcmcia.gz root disk (instead of color.gz)?
If these special pcmcia installation disks aren't working,
then you should try installing the 3c589 module manually.
It's at /modules/2.x.xx/pcmcia/
