I'm looking into ADSL, and, of course, Linux is not supported by the
local phone company. I gather there are work arounds, but what disturbed
me was the 'phone company saying that support was limited to Windows and
Mac because they use a PPP-OE protocol, which is "PPP on Ethernet."

Does this mean that the telco is using a protocol that effectively
prevents my having my ISP use their ADSL service? Os this a proprietary
protocol? Can I simply ignore it?
