First, there is no such thing as linux 6.1 . Linux version numbers
are still in the 2.x range. You probably mean RedHat 6.1.
There are several solutions to your problem.
1. http -- you could put the files you want to transfer under a
the directory that the web server serves.
2. rcp/scp. rcp is remote copy. It's kinda dated, as it sends
passwords in the clear. scp is the better choice. It's part of
of the ssh package.. You can get a non-free ssh (free as in speech)
at:
www.ssh.org
or a free version that's a bit harder to install at :
www.openssh.com
3.netcat. Netcat is great, it's just like cat except you can use
it across a network. It's available at
http://www.l0pht.com/users/10pht/nc110.tgz
you can telnet to the server and then do something like:
tar cf - somedirectorytosend | nc your.ip.address 55555
and on your machine do:
nc -l 55555 | tar xf -
hope this helps,
greg
