It depends on what options the system at the other end offers. Possibilities
are:

        1. NFS mount the remote system's directory on your system;
                use cp .

        2. SMB mount the remote system's directory on your system;
                then use whatever copy program is appropriate to
                SMB mounts.

        3. Use rcp or scp if available.

        4. If the files are text files, open them in vi (or whatever
                you prefer), and cut and paste the contents to a 
                vi (or whatever) process on the local machine.
