can you access the printer with smbclient,
try
smbclient -Lhostname -Uusername%password
will display the available shares

smbclient //servername/sharename -Uusername%password

you should get an smb command prompt like this
smb: |>
? or h will get you help
see if you can print a file with "print filename" command

if so smbprint should work, after you define the .config file :)
see the comments in smbprint for what should be in the .config file
both smbprint and the config file need to be in the spool dir

a minimal print cap would look like

smb:\
        :lp=/dev/null:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/smb:\
        :if=/var/spool/lpd/smb/smbprint:\

you will need to create the spool dir stucture, and stop and restart the lpd
(if you use LPRng checkpc -f will do it for you)

Try using printtool under x if you're using redhat... The lets you setup smb
shared printers quite easily...
