Hi,

Callback - or dialback (as it is otherwise known) is when you call a
computer - enter your own modem phone number and it then calls you back!!

Saves on the phone bill and allows you to do remote administration without
having to pay high phone bills (in South Africa - it is a problem).

I found a package on freshmeat called dialback - it is a set of scripts
that handle this sort of thing - but - I have a problem - the log file
gives this:

Apr 17 15:15:31 tag mgetty[1012]: failed timeout dev=ttyS0, pid=1012, caller='none',
conn='', name=''
Apr 17 15:16:16 tag mgetty[1091]: data dev=ttyS0, pid=1091,
caller='none',conn='38400', name='', cmd='/bin/login', user='ppp'
Apr 17 15:16:17 tag PAM_pwdb[1091]: (login) session opened for user ppp by LOGIN(uid=0)
Apr 17 15:16:19 tag PAM_pwdb[1091]: (login) session closed for user ppp
Apr 17 15:16:20 tag mgetty[1117]: TIOCMBIS failed: Input/output error
Apr 17 15:16:20 tag mgetty[1117]: cannot turn off soft carrier: Input/output error
Apr 17 15:16:20 tag mgetty[1117]: tcgetattr failed: Input/output error
Apr 17 15:16:20 tag mgetty[1117]: cannot get TIO: Input/output error
Apr 17 15:16:36 tag pppd[1120]: must be root to run /usr/sbin/pppd, since it is not
setuid-root

My question s how do you run pppd as aother user - currently I have a user
ppp - which is used to log into the server - but the last line is the
killer - ???

I can run the dialback script as root - it works well - but ???

I tried placing the ppp user into a root group and then tried - still no
luck

Any suggesions - comments??

Thanks again

Tonino
