Subject: cron error
===================
Some time ago, I noted that since I installed RedHat V6.1 and an OSS sound
driver that every Sunday morning I would get an msg to root saying;
Subject: Cron <root@CX????????-A> run-parts /etc/cron.weekly
Read file error: ./rec.1 No such file or directory
Thsi would always be dated at 4:?? am on monday morning.
I finally found the culprit in the /usr/man/man1 dir.
There was a logical link for rec.1 to some off in wonderland dir for play.1.
It happened when I installed the OSS sound driver I guess.
Anyway I redid the logical link of rec.1 to play.1
'ln -s /usr/man/man1/rec.1 /usr/man/man1/play.1'
Of course one needs to rm the old rec.1
It seems that play.1 has both information for play and rec(ord) so no separate
rec.1 is needed. Of course running 'whatis rec' wont get you anything but play
will. And running 'man rec' will get you the man play which covers both.
It is caused by the cron.weekly entry of 'makewhatis.cron' that calls
'makewhatis -w'.
I hope this helps anyone experiancing odd error msgs in root from cron.
