Did you try "Plugger"? I just had a look in my Netscum preferences
and Plugger is the beastie that image/PNG is handled by. Can't
remember the URL but if you go to Netscum's plugin page it'll be
mentioned there somewhere.

Both of these worked fine for me in 4.72. BTW, if you're looking for
a killer MUA, look no further than Gnus.
