Hmmmm...don't know right off hand. Did anyone have access to this machine
while you were away? Was it logged into a network of any kind? (I'm
thinking someone may have hacked in?)
I assume that as you say you can still run Windoze, that you have re-booted
the machine.
Try starting X with 'startx 2> errormsg' . This will save any server errors
to a file named 'errormsg' in the current directory.
