Did that. I cannot see any messages that I would call a serious error msg.
And I have changed the root passwd. again (just in case). But this time it
the phenomenon of runnig 'startx' was even wierder! I have multiple
desktops setup and after issuing a startx this time, I could get a glimpse
of the desktop as I scrolled from one desktop to the other.with the mouse.
I could see nothing on using the keyboard shortcut to do the same. The
screen would come on, and blank out soon after!
happened last time was that after "zapping" the server, I still found a
couple of processes (xinit, and a few xterms) in a ps aux. So, I ran a
kill -9 on each of those. Do you think I could have left a stale lock file
someplace that should have been deleted, or some other such stray
incident? How must I check/correct that?
Thanks once again,
-Karthik.
