Jill -- I don't want to seem to nag, but you *still* haven't mentioned which
Linux distribution you are using. Although logs (except for dmesg, which is
actually a ring buffer, not a log file) are always kept in /var/log, the
details of logging vary from one distribution to another, so we really need
to know what you are running to give you very focused advice here.
You also didn't include the *name* of that first, long log file you sent in
"a log about my mail?"; was it possibly /var/log/messages (the closest thing
to a "generic" log file on Linux systems)?
OK, as to the logs.
First the easy one: "netconfig log". It reports that it is looking for a
Linux filesystem (ext2) disk in the floppy drive and not finding one. Then
it looks for a DOS filesystem (msdos) disk in the floppy drive, but doesn't
report (in what you quoted, anyway) success or failure.
Now dmesg -- not really a log, but similar. It isn't reporting anything that
is a problem; looks like a normal boot.
And finally the unnamed one (messages?) -- its contents (which I only
skimmed, so I may have missed something) report several normal-looking
reboots (a shutdowen, followed by a boot/init) of your system. I didn't see
any mail-related messages in it.
With all of these logs, you don't ask any specific questions. Generally
speaking, logs aren't something you read; they are something you check for
information when you encounter a problem. For example, if you are having a
problem with your kpp dialer, you would look for log entries from the
program kpp. Each entry is labeled by what program made it -- for example,
in the entry
May 26 04:15:33 localhost sendmail: sendmail startup succeeded
the field "sendmail:" identifies this as a log entry made by the program
sendmail.

That's fine, Jill. I just wanted you to realize if some of us didn't quote
as completely as you wanted, there was a reason for it.
