I am having a like problem as I installed kxicq-0.3.1-1.i386.rpm the way I did it is:
rpm -i kxicq-0.3.1-1.i386.rpm
It did not setup a subdirectory on my home directory and I cannot find wher it is or what the comand to get it to work is.
This is what I get when I tried the which command.
which: no kxicq in (/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin::/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games:/home/fleming/bin:/usr/X11R6/
bin:/usr/games:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/games)

if it is a command,

which <command>

should tell you where it is.

or

whereis <command>

should find it and its man page, if it has one.

failing that,

find / -name <name>

will find every file named <name>, but it may take a while.

READNE or INSTALL should have told you where it proposed to install
itself, and told you how to tell it where you wanted it, but maybe it
didn't.
