major, minor for plip0,plip1,... nodes?

I'm trying to use PLIP, but Redhat nor Debian provide the required
nodes.
I've looked into the PLIP miniHOWTO, NET3-HOWTO and
/usr/src/linux/devices.txt,devices.tex but they don't show any info.
So I cannot create the node.
The device files are not automatically created by inserting the plip
module either.
Where is that information?
Why is it not in devices.txt? That file states that requests for
information on device nodes won't be answered and that there should
be made only requests for device additions (for developers) to the
maintainer of the list.
