Most of this advice is on target, but one piece may involve a misreading of
the question. See below.

I assume the question was more fundamental than what you (Juha) answered.
First, are you (Samuel) even talking about resolution under XFree86? Your
next question makes me uncertain about that. Second, if it is X, what X
server are you running? If the card is not "supported" by "stormix"
(actually, by the version of XFree86 it ships), you may be falling back to
VGA16, which will, in a manner of speaking, "support" almost anything with a
VGA connector on it ... but not perform very well.

I think I've seen your questions before elsewhere (in fact, I think I am the
person who referred you to this list). If my memory is correct, I told you
to look on the list at http://www.xfree86.org/cardlist.html and see if you
can identify your video card more specifically.

If you can't identify your card from the list, you may need to turn to the
chipset information at http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.5/README3.html .
Unfurtunately, the "current" version here sppears to be outdated (associated
with XFree86 v. 3.3.5); I don't know what's up with that.

If you have no luck at the XFree86 site (I can't find it there), you might
check the tech support section on Diamond's own Web site.

In the Monster Fusion FAQ there
(http://www.diamondmm.com/customer_caretechnical_supportfaqGraphicsMonster_F
usion.htm#16251), I found the following:

Note that Stormix appears to provide only Xfree86 3.3.6, not the current
4.0.x -- much as does Debian (talk on the Debian lists is that 4.0 is too
buggy to support, but I don't know myself). The latest X-related updates all
have a March 24 date on them and are located at
ftp://ftp.stormix.com/pub/storm/dists/rain/contrib/binary-i386/x11/ .

Stormix is derived from Debian. I'd be surprised if it uses linuxconf by
default (thuough linuxconf is available for Debian systems). If you (Samuel)
can address the fundamental X sever question successfully, then you can
probably do the needed installing with a text-based tool like xf86config, or
one designed for VGA16, like XF86Setup.
