I'm interested in checking e-mail and connecting to the Internet
without a GUI interface like kppp.
I followed Lawson's ppp micro-howto and managed to connect to my
service provider with pppd and chat.
Unfortunately, I got the following message when I tried
to run fetchmail:

fetchmail: 5.0.0 querying pop3.uol.com.br (protocol POP3) at Sun, 18 Jun 2000 18:06:41
-0300 (GMT+3)
fetchmail: POP3 connection to pop3.uol.com.br failed: temporary name server error
fetchmail: Query status=2
fetchmail: normal termination, status 2

My /etc/resolve.conf file consists of a single word (w/out quotes):

'search'

and I was wondering if I should add the IP addresses of my ISP's
name servers?

Also, why would DNS resolution function with kppp,
but not when I run my scripts for pppd and chat?

TIA,
Richard
