Though it has been discussed before, the (recent) discussion wasn't relevant
to your question -- it was about the difference between the (say) 14 megs
that "free" reports and the 16 that is actually on the system.
Your problem -- a 32 megs system appearing to Linux as 16 megs -- is
puzzling. I can only wonder if there is a BIOS problem that causes Linux to
read memory size incorrectly. Try forcing recognition of the 32 megs by
adding to /etc/lilo.conf the line:
append="mem=32M"
in the block for the Linux boot, then rerunning lilo. See if after a reboot
the system sees all 32 megs.
If that doesn't help, I don't know what to tell you ... beyond the fact that
you have an unusual problem.
