You keep the orgianal kernel so you can always degrade.

No many aspects, one of the most important is memory.

Look at it this way, you dont hire a 50 ton truck to deliver a 10 kilo
package, that truck consumes too much resourses.

Take a look at my home page, it has a "simple guide" to making ones own
kernel.
