OK, here goes.... Red Hat 6.1 When I'm logged in as root, I start with a command prompt, type startx seems to work fine. But when I log out back to the prompt I get a box as it's shutting down: Application "gmc" ( process 1862 ) has crashed due to fatal error (Segmentation fault ) At the prompt I have a screen full of various complaints I'll list the first one and go from there. xlib: connection to: 0.0 refused by server xlib: client is not authorized to connect to server. Now when I log in as a user and type startx I get: Authentication failed. Cannot start xserver. Perhaps you do not have console ownership? _X11TransSocketUnixConnect: can't connect: error = 111 giving up Xinit: Connection refused ( errno 111 ) : unable to connect to xserver xinit: No such process ( errno 3 ) : server error Being a Dos/Win slave ownership and permissions are very cool, but confusing.
