Altho' i think i understand this question its a little bit double dutch,
however The S3 Trio 64V+ works under linux i have one. It uses the SVGA
server.
My card is;
Chipset: S3 Trio64V2/DX (PCI Probed)
Memory: 2048 Kbytes
RAMDAC: Generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC
I placed it in a machine of mine and did not even need to change any
configuration at all, the previous card was a Cirrus logic.
The error message you get is "No screens" found which means you
have not defined the following in /etc/XF86Config
Section "Screen"
Driver "svga"
# Use Device "Generic VGA" for Standard VGA 320x200x256
#Device "Generic VGA"
Device "cirrus logic"
Monitor "tvm"
DefaultColorDepth 16
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
# Omit the Modes line for the "Generic VGA" device
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
ViewPort 0 0
# Use Virtual 320 200 for Generic VGA
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "640x480" "800x600" "1280x1024"
ViewPort 0 0
Virtual 1024 768
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768" "1280x1024"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 32
Modes "640x480" "800x600" "1024x768"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
That is whats missing, or so it seems, you will have to change the card
settings at the top of the example otherwise it still wont work as your
Section "Device"
will have a different card defined.
I would simply rerun "xf86config" in my opinion it is far beter than
Xconfigurator or XF86Setup.

When are folks going to understand that Linux is NOTHING like windows when
it comes to simply reinstalling, there is almost NEVER the need to
reinstall.

You need to configure the system properly, then xf86config will change the
video server for you, "providing you have it installed", video servers
reside in /usr/X11R6/bin check and make sure they are there.
